We're happy to announce that the groundwater monitoring network of the Hainich Critical Zone Exploratory is currently being extended with two additional research wells!

Started in June, the first rotary drilling was carried down to approx. 85 m depth for accessing the phreatic groundwater at another lower midslope position of the Hainich low-mountain range.

Constantly supervising the drilling and construction process, the Hydrogeology team conducts rock core description and sampling of the diverse Lower Keuper and Upper Muschelkalk rock on site, including sampling for mineralogical and molecular biological analyses and for joint experiments of the CRC AquaDiva.
